Google ditches 30-second unskippable ads on YouTube

Ads -- be they on TV, on the web or in apps -- can be deeply annoying, hence the prevalence of ad-blocking software. But there are some ads that you can't always avoid, such as those tacked onto the beginning of YouTube videos; not all ad-blocking software is made equal, after all.

It has now been observed in a statement from a Google spokesperson that the company is looking forward to stop the 30-second unskippable ads on YouTube from 2018. However, the spokesperson said that while Google plans to drop the 30 second YouTube unskippable ads, they will continue with the 20 second unskippable ads.

In addition to this, Google also commented that they intend to introduce "bumper ads" which will be six-second ads that will also be unskippable! While the idea of the 30 second YouTube unskippable ads being dropped sounds good, it will be rather sad if the bumper ads keep annoying us!

However, Google knows that they need to keep the users happy, and they need to keep the users engaged. We will have to wait for another year to find out how life without the 30-second unskippable YouTube ads is.

In a statement, Google says:
We're committed to providing a better ads experience for users online. As part of that, we’ve decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers.
